A 17-year-old boy is cooling his heels in police cells after sneaking into a ranch in Gilgil, Nakuru county, and damaging an aircraft belonging to a local businessman.
At around 9:30 in the morning on Friday, March 24, the juvenile who has been named as David Chege, according to a police record that was viewed by Qwetu News , entered the ranch that was located in the Ndume area.
Peter White, the ranch’s owner, informed police that Chege walked straight inside the hangar where the small aircraft with the registration number 5Y-AZA and the make PA25 had been assigned to spray crops on local farms.
According to the report, “a stranger male Juvenile who confirmed his name as David Chege aged about 17 years, walked into the compound of the said ranch and boarded into the cabin of the said aircraft parked at the yard and started its engine at the hanger and taxed it but did not take off.”
The plane’s engine exploded after the invader touched a live fence.
The plane’s propeller and leading edge curled inward as a result of the impact. The suspect, however, evaded capture without harm.
Chege was apprehended and detained at Gilgil Police station for interrogation.
“The suspect escaped unhurt and is in police custody aiding investigations,” police added
