Police in Nairobi have arrested four college students from the Ruai, Juja, Kayole, and adjacent regions who they say are connected to a gang responsible for a string of violent robberies.
Following the arrest of a 19-year-old Kenyatta University student on Saturday night in connection with the robberies by an undercover squad of police officers headquartered in Makadara, Ruai, Embakasi, and Kayole.
The guy was reportedly captured by the DCI after intelligence indicated he belonged to a violent criminal organization.
The DCI added that the suspect had led the police to his three co-conspirators, all of whom were first-year students in the Kwa Benson residences in Juja’s Container area.
All of the suspects are, the agency said, Development Studies majors at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
During the course of the search, officers uncovered a replica Glock pistol, eight spent 9mm special cartridges, an empty pistol magazine, a white plastic face mask, and two laptops they believed to be stolen.
DCI Thika’s crime scene investigators investigated the site, and the suspects were taken to the Juja police station to await further questioning and arraignment.
