Learning activities were suspended at Nyamunda Primary in Migori County after 5 pupils were alleged to be in possession of evil spirits.
The school’s head teacher Fredrick Taabu Kiboko said they had to send all the learners home following panic that gripped majority of them.
According to the head teacher, the morning incident started when five girls collapsed during assembly and allegedly started revealing their evil schemes.
He then called religious leaders to cut away the demons but when the situation got out of hand, they suspended learning activities for the day to quell tension in the school.
Kiboko added they are investigating claims made by the affected pupils that they were recruited into devil worship by one of the teachers.
Timon Ogolla Oswago, Board of Management Chairperson (BOM) on his side said they had received reports of pupils’ engagement in dark rituals and they were yet to establish the real facts.
Ogolla however called on parents to give them time to conclude their investigation and take the appropriate administrative action adding that they have no powers to close down the school.
Some parents requested that the evil possessed pupils be allowed to stay away from school for sometime.
