Musician Kevin Bahati Kioko says he was offered Ksh 50 million to drop out of the Mathare MP contest in favour of his opponent.
Speaking on Radio Citizen, Bahati claimed that all of his opponents have been attempting to get him to resign but do not reside in Mathare.
“I was told I will be given a job. But I am not looking for a job, I am earning a living from my music,” he said.
”People have come with offers they want to pay me to step down. They have offered me millions, up to Ksh.50 million. They know that when they get to office they will regain the money,” Bahati said.
The Azimio Coalition, which just declared Anthony Oluoch as their preferred candidate to run for the Mathare MP seat, is at a crossroads with Bahati at the time of these statements.
During a joint delegates meeting of the ODM and Jubilee on Monday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said they will talk to Bahati about stepping down and being considered for a position in the Azimio government.
“We only have one candidate in Mathare and that is Anthony Oluoch, this young man called Bahati is my younger brother and we will talk. I will make sure that we find him another position within the Azimio government,” Sifuna said.
