DCI Boss Amin Mohammed Announces Major Changes
As part of his effort to streamline operations inside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Amin Mohamed reorganized the senior detectives in the department.
Amin restructured his staff, putting DCI Operations in the hands of Nairobi Area detective Said Kiprotich.
Margaret Karanja, previously the director of forensics, now heads the Anti-Narcotics Unit.
John Onyango, former chief of the DCI in the Nyanza region, now oversees the organization’s crime research and intelligence efforts from the headquarters.
Francis Wanjau, the former head of DCI in Kisumu County, was recently promoted to head the Rift Valley Regional DCI HQ.
Additionally, Amin moved Bethuel Oburu, a criminal investigations officer in Marsabit County, to head the Central Kenya offices.
The National Centre for Counter-former terrorism’s director, Abdallah Komesha, has been moved to the DCI Headquarters to take over the position of head of personnel.
Amin demanded that the officers move straight into their new positions.
The investigations into extrajudicial killings committed by rogue DCI personnel triggered the adjustment.
During his oath of office, Amin vowed to uphold the Constitution of Kenya with the utmost honesty and competence.
“This is a new chapter for the DCI and I want to promise the president and the people of Kenya that I will not let you down. I am ready for the task and ready to lead the DCI to deal with the challenges of our time,” he said.
“We shall try as much as possible to work in collaboration with other security agencies such as the EAC, KPS, APS and other actors of the criminal justice system including the ODPP, Judiciary amongst others for purposes of serving Kenyans without prejudice.”
