Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to release the 2022 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education exam results on Friday January 20.
With the marking process reportedly complete, Machogu will make the announcement at the KNEC headquarters.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) was responsible for administering the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination to approximately 884,263 students who participated in the exams. Out of this, 420,845 were female while 405,962 were male.
That number is down from the 826,807 people who tried to get into the university last year.
However, it has become clear that the government is eager to minimize high stakes in the tests, thus it is possible that the CS will not disclose the particular results for candidates and institutions.
Parents, teachers, and union officials all agreed that this year’s distribution of KCPE national examination results lacked the traditional pomp and circumstance.
Unlike in previous years, when the KCPE results were announced in December, neither students nor schools were ranked according to their performance.
The customary outpouring of song and dance from schools and candidates upon hearing their names shouted on national television to celebrate the release was so extinguished.
The revelation of this year’s national examination results was met with little fanfare from parents, teachers, and union representatives.
They were pleased with the change, though, because they believed it would reduce competition and fix problems associated with ranking candidates and learning institutions.
Machogu is scheduled to discuss policy concerns affecting the sector, such as the selection and admission of students to universities and colleges, in conjunction with the announcement of the examination results.
The CS will likely discuss school openings, fees, and other education-related transitional problems next week.
