Two female teachers at a school in Itumbe, Kisii County, have been detained after they were caught on camera administering inappropriate punishment to two underage boys.
Our media team was informed by Police Spokesperson Resila Atieno that the two have been arrested and are currently being investigated.
The arrest happened after a public outcry condemned the action and the teachers who had watched in complicity while their terrified students participated.
“(The pupils were) from Itumbe Primary School in Kenyenya Sub-county in Kisii County. Two madam teachers have already been arrested,” Atieno stated.
The guys were caught on camera in an unseemly position in the video that quickly went viral on social media, leaving viewers with doubts about the circumstances of the occurrence.
The teachers, some of whom were already in tears, laughed off the incident and seemed unconcerned.
The police had not yet completed their investigation into the incident’s more intricate aspects.
Many Kenyans have spoken out against the teachers’ behavior, while many others have demanded swift action.
They expressed their disapproval of the two and their surprise that the teachers would put up with such behavior by criticizing the duo.
“This video was seemingly captured in Kisii or Nyamira counties. Teachers are heard enjoying what they are forcing these learners to do. Please CS Ezekiel Machogu, come out and explain what is happening here!” a user of social media posted.
“On that unfortunate video of school pupils being subjected to punishment in Kisii County; Are those teachers even normal.? That’s very wrong and action should be taken,” another commented.
