The revised dates for the 2023 academic year have been announced by the Ministry of Education.
Schools are scheduled to reopen on January 23, 2023, according to a notice signed by Belio Kipsang on January 10.
However, the Ministry adjusted the previously established mid-term break dates from March 23 to March 16. The students will have a three-day holiday and return to class on March 19.
After the completion of the first term on April 21, 2022, students around the country will be able to enjoy their first break of the year.
The opening and mid-term dates for the second term were maintained at May 8 and June 29 respectively. Even yet, the initial August 8 end date for the term has been moved to August 11. The break will begin on August 28 and last for two weeks.
The Ministry also changed third term dates with the revised calendar revealing that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education- KCPE and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment tests are planned to take up on October 30, as opposed to the originally reported date of November 6.
Both tests will be given over the course of four days, concluding on November 2.
The Ministry has announced that the third term will begin on August 28 and continue for nine weeks without an holiday or mid term break.
The previously released timetable indicated the term would run 10 weeks, thus this is a change from that.
In addition, the start date for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations has been moved forward to November 3 from the originally announced start date of November 10.
The tests for the 2023 candidates will continue through November 24.
This will prepare the way for marking, which is scheduled to begin on November 27 and continue until December 15.
This is the second revision to the 2023 academic calendar, the first being on January 6.
After nearly three years of interruption due to Covid-19, the government stated in 2022 that regular operations will resume in the educational system.
