The Teachers Service Commission has issued interdiction letters to five teachers at the Itumbe DOK primary school located in Nyamache, Kisii county. Among the interdicted teachers was the school’s headteacher.
This comes after a video depicting teachers coercing their students into acting out a sexual scene went viral.
TSC informed the teachers in a letter dated February 2 that they had violated Clause 9 (1) of the Code of Conduct and Ethics for Teachers by forcing their students to take part in such activities.
It was reported by TSC that six second graders had been subjected to trauma, psychological torment, and humiliation.
“You are hereby interdicted with effect from February 2,” the letter signed by E.J. Mitei on behalf of TSC CEO Nancy Macharia read in part.
In addition to that, they were instructed to leave the school premises immediately, remain absent, and give up whatever yearly leave they had accrued.
Mitei has given the teachers till February 11th, 2016 (twenty-one days from today) to submit a written defense before the Commission .
TSC has promised the six an in-person hearing and asked them to identify the closest TSC sub-county office where they will be required to report once a month.
The students were caught on camera, with teachers looking on, performing a sexual act while mounted on each other.
