The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that in the ongoing recruitment process, they would prioritize candidates who have been out of work for the longest period of time since they earned their graduate degree.
Beginning with the new school year on January 23, interns at secondary schools will be hired without further application or interview for positions as teachers in junior secondary schools.
“Teachers who graduated in 2010 or earlier and are currently unemployed will automatically receive a score of 60%, according to TSC.” For their “length of stay since qualifying as a teacher,” individuals who graduated this year and last year will receive a score of 5%. These guidelines will apply to teachers who will be assigned to both primary and secondary schools.
The score sheet also reveals an additional point of discussion: the total number of applicants who will be contacted for interviews throughout the recruitment drive. According to the score sheet, the county selection panel can now only invite the top five candidates from the merit list for the mass recruitment in 2023. This will reduce the number of people who would otherwise be present at recruitment meetings who aren’t actually needed.
If none of the top five applications meet the criteria, the panel will invite the next five best candidates for interviews, which will be rescheduled.
With everything in place, the Commission can proceed with hiring 35,000 new teachers in accordance with the standards it has set for teacher recruitment.
Those with a first-class honors degree will receive 35%, those with a second-class teaching degree will receive 30%, and those who scored a pass in their degree program will receive 25%. The percentages of points awarded for a diploma are as follows: 30% for a distinction, 25% for a credit, and 20% for a pass.
In addition, oral and written communication abilities may account for as much as 5% of the total grade.
To obtain the extra 5 marks and gain an advantage over the other applicants, you must do the following:
(a) Communication Skills
To get started, just answer all the necessary questions without resorting to slang. Just be yourself at all times.
Talk loudly and clearly so that you can be heard, and don’t shut your eyes while you do so.
(b) Bring the following documents with you to your interview:
A participation certificate if you participated in co-curricular activities while teaching.
Test scores from the past three years
Credentials attesting to your exceptional qualities; for example, a Certificate of Leadership from a previous position of responsibility. Talk about the specifics of your high school transcript and graduation certificate if they differ from or add to the above.
In addition, the Commission made it clear that candidates with a postgraduate certificate in education but who have studied topics that are currently required of secondary school students are ineligible for recruitment.
