To pay their respects to former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Omore Magoha, Kenyans were led by President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
To add to the throng of those who have expressed sorrow at the loss of their friend, President William Ruto has also expressed his condolences. Furthermore, he mentioned that Magoha’s brother had recently passed away, thus the family could need a lot of comforting words right now.
“I have learnt with great sorrow about the passing of Prof. George Magoha, EGH. Prof. Magoha is a towering giant of our time, a great man who stood tall in the academy, where he excelled in learning, teaching and research, as well as in administration, where he led robust turnaround interventions at the University of Nairobi and the Exams Council,” President Ruto stated in a statement.
The current head of state lauded his performance during the time he was required to collaborate with him while serving as Deputy President in the administration of his predecessor, Uhuru.
“Prof. Magoha also famously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Education. Throughout his tenure, he evinced a commitment to high standards in public service and uncompromising integrity,” he stated.
Ruto has already worked with the departed CS in a number of settings outside of government.
“I have been privileged to know and work with the late Professor in many capacities, from the university where I completed my post-graduate studies, to government, where he served with distinction as the chair of KNEC and later as my colleague in Cabinet,” he announced.
Ruto noted that the whole world had lost a great person who left behind a great legacy.
“We have lost a gifted, unique, distinguished and great servant of Kenya. I join Kenyans and people from other parts of the world in mourning the passing of Prof. Magoha. I also send condolences to his family and pray that Almighty God grants them divine comfort and grace in this moment of grief,” he uttered.
Magoha’s death was confirmed by his family on Tuesday evening, January 24.
The late CS was honored by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who praised him for his illustrious career in public service.
The former Cs comforted the family and offered his condolences at this difficult period.
“It is unfortunate and painful that we’ve lost my friend Prof George Magoha at a time when his family is mourning his brother,” the former President stated.
The family claims Magoha had a heart attack at the Nairobi Hospital.
The hospital’s CEO, James Nyamongo, had verified that Magoha passed away there and has said that he was pronounced dead soon after his arrival.
Dr. Walter Mwanda, a close friend of Magoha’s, described the final minutes before Magoha passed away.
Dr. Mwanda, speaking to the media at the Lee Funeral Home, said that he had been on duty at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) when he received a call from Dr. Barbra Odudu, Magoha’s wife.
His death occurred only a few days after he had accepted a position as a professor of surgery at Maseno University’s School of Medicine.
